London’s historic East-End market

Old Spitalfields Market is one of the busiest markets in the city, and once you visit you can certainly see why! Built during the 1800s, the venue underwent a major refurbishment project in the 2000s, restoring it to its former glory. As well as being historic, Old Spitalfields Market is also unique – providing an array of fantastic shopping, eating and drinking venues. Located under one roof, this is the ideal market for browsing come rain or shine, all within easy reach of our hotels near Hogarth Road.

After a visit to the market, you can continue with your London adventures, like discovering how to get to Buckingham Palace or visiting a few of the city’s other great landmark attractions.

How to reach to Old Spitalfields Market?

History of Old Spitalfields Market

Even though the market didn’t begin to take true form until the 1800s, there’s been a market in the same area since the 1600s, thanks to a royal licence to buy and sell in the district.

The market is enormous, including two noted Grade II listed buildings on its eastern side, dated from between 1885-1893. During a reconstruction in the 2000s, the Victorian sections of Old Spitalfields Market were given a major makeover. This enlivened the space and transformed it into one of London’s most prominent market spaces, easily accessible to our guests at Kensington Hotel London.

What shops will I see at Old Spitalfields Market?

There’s seemingly no end to the variety of shops and stalls you’ll find in Old Spitalfields Market, so prepare for plenty of surprises. This vast market includes not only a wide number of permanent fixtures like Chanel, Dr Martens and Mac, but also offers an array of artisans and tradespeople, all selling everything from clothing to crafts, gifts and much more!
