The Saatchi Gallery

The Saatchi Gallery is one of London’s most famous art galleries, launching the careers of talented young creatives, and showcasing the work of some of the most successful artists in the world. Currently located in Chelsea after moving from the South Bank, the gallery has had an enormous influence on art in the UK, and remains one of the most popular attractions in London for art enthusiasts.

In 2010, the gallery was handed over to the British public, and become formerly known as the Museum of Contemporary Art for London – though it’s still affectionately referred to as the Saatchi Gallery in most circles.

Guests staying at the Park Grand Kensington London are in close proximity to the gallery – indeed, the one-and-a-half-mile stroll from the hotel to the venue is a very pleasant one, meandering through the affluent streets of Chelsea. If you’re planning to visit the Saatchi Gallery as part of your upcoming stay in London, here are some of the works of art you can’t afford to miss.

SALON 004: Philip Pearlstein: Paintings 1990 – 2017

The fourth exhibition in the SALON series will focus on respected American artist, Philip Pearlstein. Pearlstein himself is now aged 93, but has been creating fine art since the 1950s.

Over the years, his style has matured greatly. He started out creating celebrated depictions of the human nude, and as his style evolved, he began to surround his sitters and models with his own personal possessions. This, he says, further engages the viewer, and challenges him as an artist. An exhibition focusing on the paintings from his later years will be held at the Saatchi Gallery between 17th January and 25th March 2018.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is undoubtedly one of the most iconic artists of the modern age. His work began the ‘pop art’ movement, exploring the way art, celebrity culture and advertising are linked. He was famous for using a multitude of different types of media, including painting, photography and sculpture. To this day, his work is imitated and mimicked, and many of his designs are synonymous with the 60s as an era of cultural change.

If you’re visiting the Saatchi Gallery during your stay at one of our 4-star hotels in Kensington London, you simply can’t miss the Andy Warhol collection. Famous pieces on show at the Saatchi Gallery include Triple Elvis, Marilyn x11, Atomic Bomb and 16 Jackies. If you have the time, you can also see more of Warhol’s most famous work at the National Portrait Gallery, which is just a short distance away from the Saatchi Gallery, just off Trafalgar Square.

Collect 2018

Don’t miss the next instalment of the craft industry’s most exciting showcase. This event unites galleries, artists and collectors from across the globe to present craft work in a fine art context. If you visit the Saatchi Gallery from 22nd – 25th February, as well as traditional paintings and sculptures, you’ll find glass, metal, wood, jewellery, textiles and ceramics, as well as a range of other experimental creations. Collect reflects the diversity of modern art, demonstrating how craft can push the boundaries of contemporary design in new ways.
