The Saatchi Gallery

The Saatchi Gallery is one of London’s most famous artistic destinations, filled with some of the world’s finest artworks. The museum prefers artwork a little out of the ordinary, and is well known for supporting up-and-coming modern artists.

Exploring the Saatchi Gallery

Self-described as an ‘innovative forum for contemporary art’, the Saatchi Gallery prides itself on finding artwork and artists who might otherwise never have a platform, and giving them a space to exhibit their work. Opened more than 25 years ago, the gallery has since developed an enviable reputation which sees millions of visitors pass through the doors each year, spanning audiences as diverse as the artwork on the walls and exhibited in the venue’s gallery space.  Easily reached from our 4-star hotels in Kensington London, the gallery has acted as a valuable springboard for artists ever since being founded.

For those planning their own visit this month, there’s great news as February sees lots of new exhibitions and events on offer to help kick start 2018. Here’s our guide to the very best.

Iconoclasts: Art Out of the Mainstream

Until March 2018

This exhibition exemplifies the kind of artwork which the Saatchi Gallery champions so well; ‘art out of the mainstream’. Iconoclasm is the destruction of what came before, and artists featured in this exhibition, including Maurizio Anzeri, Matthew Chambers, Aaron Fowler, Danny Fox and Kate MccGwire, all set out to do just that. The work spans genres such as abstraction and figuration with sometimes dark but always interesting results. For a true understanding of the ethos behind the Saatchi Gallery, this should be a must visit during your stay at the Park Grand Kensington London.

Salon 004: Philip Pearlstein Paintings 1990 – 2017

Until March 2018

The artwork of US painter Philip Pearlstein is the focus of this exhibition. In a career which has spanned everything from commercial design to fine art, Pearlstein has the distinction of being a contemporary and sometime collaborator of Andy Warhol. His own artwork has shifted between expressionism and realism, with skewed, off-kilter angles and masterful composition, and this exhibit showcases artwork created during the last 25 years of his career. Pearlstein recently turned 93, making this a superb opportunity to experience the work of an iconic living painter with a long pedigree while visiting our 4-star hotels in Kensington London.

Collect 2018

22nd – 25th February 2018

39 galleries from around the world will be taking part in this year’s contemporary craft exhibition and fair, Collect. Now in its 14th year, the exhibition is a celebration of the handmade, with talents from Korea, Japan, France, Norway,  Italy, Belgium (and many more besides) showing off their ideas in this unmistakably creative space. There’s everything from experimental materials to immersive crafting projects on display, helping visitors to understand exactly what is meant by the term ‘craft’ in the modern age. The event hopes to help support, promote and shape the future of crafting.
